Launch of LARC with CMU
- Singapore Management University (SMU) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have teamed up to establish the Living Analytics Research Centre (LARC). The Centre will develop new techniques to acquire data on consumer and social behavior and pioneer new approaches to analyse such data to develop applications and methods that will benefit consumers, businesses and society. The collaboration has received a S$26 million grant over five years from the National Research Foundation in Singapore. This fund is managed through the multi-agency Interactive Digital Media Programme Office (IDMPO) hosted by Media Development Authority of Singapore. With SMU and CMU committed to cash and in-kind contributions, and third party funding, the S$60 million centre will establish Singapore as one of the world's pre-eminent centres of excellence in computational social science. The Living Analytics research programme is distinctive in that it combines the key technologies of Big Data (large scale data mining, statistical machine learning, and computational tools for the analysis of dynamic social networks) with analytics focused on consumer behavior and social media. MoU signing between SkillsFuture Singapore and SMU at the launch of SMU Resilient Workforces Institute
- A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between SkillsFuture Singapore and SMU at the launch of the SMU Resilient Workforces Institute (ResWORK) in January 2026. The agreement was formalised by Mr Tan Kok Yam, Chief Executive of SkillsFuture Singapore (left), and Professor Alan Chan, Provost of SMU (right). The partnership enables both parties to mutually identify and drive strategic research on how Artificial Intelligence (AI), digital technologies, and generational changes in work preferences are transforming job tasks, skills demand and career and learning pathways, and translate these insights into policies that sustain employability and inclusive growth. In addition, it will look into how adult learning systems can be redesigned for higher participation, retention and impact, and how organisations can combine human and machine capabilities to raise productivity while preserving meaningful work.
TCS-SMU iCIty-Lab inauguration on 5 August 2011
- Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services, business solutions and consulting firm, and the Singapore Management University (SMU) announced on 5 August 2011 the establishment of the TCS-SMU iCity Lab to be located at SMU. The collaboration agreement signed today states the two organizations are partnering to create a new research facility to develop industry standards and IT frameworks for the emerging intelligent city (“iCity”) model of urban development. Serving as a hub for cross-disciplinary research across SMU, ResWORK’s research is anchored on three core pillars :- (1) Optimising Human-Machine Collaboration: enabling workers to learn and perform effectively alongside AI, machines and robotics (2) Transforming Organisations: redesigning business processes, leadership and work practices for AI-enabled workplaces (3) Maximising Societal Human Capital: analysing labour-market transitions and shaping policies that promote inclusive, gainful employment

Commemorating 20 Years: WKWC Launches Wee Kim Wee Room and Heritage Fund

SMU received contribution from Equinix to advance applied research under ResWORK
