      Singapore's Universities Sign Agreement
      On 11 June 2001, Singapore Management University signed a student exchange memorandum of understanding with National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. The agreement allows up to 20 undergraduates from each of the three institutions to take up courses at the other universities. Selected students will have expanded course offerings and an exposure to different styles of teaching.         The inaugural conference "Women in Community: Change Movers" was held on 26 & 27 February at SMU and funded by the Shirin Fozdar Trust Fund. The late Mrs Shirin Fozdar was a pioneer of women's rights and in her honour, the Shirin Fozdar Trust Fund was launched in 1993 to aid the enhancement and facilitation of the advancement of women in Singapore and the region and under the custodianship of the Wee Kim Wee Centre at SMU from 2009 July.           Strong student turnout marked the opening of the SMU Career Fair in February 2026, held at the SMU Hall, as students gathered at the registration area to begin their engagement with prospective employers. Organised twice annually, the SMU Career Fair features over 130 participating companies each session, offering a wide range of internship and full‑time employment opportunities across diverse industries. Open to all undergraduate and pre‑experience postgraduate students, the fair underscores SMU’s commitment to connecting students with meaningful career opportunities and supporting their transition from university to the workforce.

At the launch of her new book, Professor Kong invited leaders, policymakers, and educators to reimagine the role of higher education in a changing world. The book is drawn from her IPS–SR Nathan Lectures delivered between October and November 2024. Across these lectures, she traced how the idea of “the university” has evolved in response to shifting societal contexts, examined what it must represent today as humanity grapples with the prospect of 100-year lifespans, and reflected on the responsibilities universities bear beyond the confines of academia. The publication also brings together highlights from Professor Kong’s dialogues with audiences following each lecture, expanding the conversation on how universities can shape enduring legacy and meaningful impact in the years ahead.

                Project Primate

A group of Singapore Management University undergraduates organised SMU’s first student-run service project, Project Primate. As part of the community service module in their leadership and team building course, they adopted a baby Sumatran Orangutan and raised funds for wildlife conservation. The fund-raising efforts culminated in a bash at Zouk.

                          SMU extends leadership and innovation training for local small and medium businesses with new $2.5 million gift from UOB
                          On behalf of Singapore Management University, President Professor Lily Kong (Left) receives a gift of SGD $2.5million from UOB Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Wee Ee Cheong (Right), which further endorse UOB's support of the UOB-SMU Asian Enterprise Institure (UOB-SMU AEI). The gift enables UOB-SMU AEI to continue championing the exchange of knowledge and resources to support the growth and development of local enterprises and SMU students through its current and new programmes. With this new funding support, the Institute will be establishing a new SME Leadership Programme, through which the Institute hopes to train 50 SME leaders annually in the areas of digital transformation, regional expansion and succession planning.

                                          Wharton-SMU Research Centre Agreement
                                          Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan speaking at the signing ceremony to establish the Wharton-Singapore Management University Research Centre. This joint research centre will focus on international business issues relevant to Singapore and Asia, and help establish a research culture at SMU. The deputy dean of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Janice Bellace, is named as the centre director and SMU president-designate.                                                   Held twice a year, the SMU Postgraduate Career & Networking Fair is curated for postgraduate students and recent graduates with more than two years of work experience. The event brings together experienced talent and industry employers across sectors such as finance, consulting, tech, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and media, offering opportunities to explore well-matched roles, ask meaningful questions, and connect directly with industry professionals. The Oct 2025 edition brought together over 250 experienced students and 40 leading employers across these sectors.
