            Launch of LARC with CMU
            Singapore Management University (SMU) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have teamed up to establish the Living Analytics Research Centre (LARC). The Centre will develop new techniques to acquire data on consumer and social behavior and pioneer new approaches to analyse such data to develop applications and methods that will benefit consumers, businesses and society. The collaboration has received a S$26 million grant over five years from the National Research Foundation in Singapore. This fund is managed through the multi-agency Interactive Digital Media Programme Office (IDMPO) hosted by Media Development Authority of Singapore. With SMU and CMU committed to cash and in-kind contributions, and third party funding, the S$60 million centre will establish Singapore as one of the world's pre-eminent centres of excellence in computational social science. The Living Analytics research programme is distinctive in that it combines the key technologies of Big Data (large scale data mining, statistical machine learning, and computational tools for the analysis of dynamic social networks) with analytics focused on consumer behavior and social media.                     Cross-Cultural Studies
                    On the occasion of his 90th birthday, Mr Choor Singh, a retired judge of the Supreme Court of Singapore, made a donation to launch Singapore Management University's Centre for Cross-Cultural Studies (now known as the Wee Kim Wee Centre). The centre is to be a platform for research, discussion and teaching across political, geographical and cultural boundaries.                       The first IdeaX Innovation and Problem-Solving Workshop in 2021
                      Mr. Derek Chiang, Senior Development Partner of SMU-X, is featured as one of the instructors for the first workshop that utilized the IdeaX Toolkit in 2021. The workshop aims to equip students with the skills needed to support their SMU-X project journey, from ideation to execution.

SMU-X hosted its inaugural IdeaX workshop – an innovation and problem-solving session for students on how to better approach their SMU-X projects in February 2021. The IdeaX toolkit is designed to guide students in their project challenges, where the deck of cards are used to facilitate conversations, ideate solutions and evaluate ideas. IdeaX can also be used beyond the classroom by organisations seeking opportunities to make meaningful impact.

Established in 2013, the award is funded by an endowed contribution from Ms. Ruth Chiang, the pioneer director of the Office of Career Services at SMU. Managed by the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC), the award scheme aims to encourage excellence in internship performance, uphold good and ethical values and practices in the workplace, and recognize students' achievements in their internships.

                            Dr Navin Rajagobal, Senior Director of Academic Services and Operations, attended the 2023 Career Day to unveil the new website and career resources of the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC). Career Day, an annual event hosted by DKHMCC, offered students and recent graduates the opportunity to connect with potential employers and explore various career paths. Additionally, attendees could access career coaching, personalized consultations, and other services provided by the Centre.

                                SMU students with local students from the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), Vietnam, during the inaugural run of the SMU Asia Global Exposure (SAGE) programme in 2024. The photo was taken in a UEH campus classroom during their first lesson. SAGE is a series of short-term immersion programmes comprising classes hosted by local universities, cultural immersion activities and company visits in Southeast Asia countries. The initiative aims to broaden students’ understanding of regional economies and diverse cultures.

The team comprised Lovein Sui (LLB, final year); Elizabeth Ho (LLB, final year); Genieve Wu (LLB, final year); Raelee Toh (LLB, final year); and Erica Wee (LLB, final year). A key factor driving the moot success at SMU YPHSL is the Ian R Taylor International Moots Programme, which has firmly established the law school on the global stage. This programme has nurtured generations of mooters who have earned numerous world-class accolades, enabling it to consistently excel at the most prestigious international moots.


                                    BSI received grant from Civil Service College on 11 May 2010
                                    The newly-established Behavioural Sciences Institute (BSI) at SMU received a S$4.5 million grant from the Civil Service College. The funds, to be disbursed to the BSI through the Civil Service College over a three-year period, will be used to build Singapore's capabilities in behavioural sciences by supporting the Institute's activities in research, training and education, as well as industry outreach and application. Mr Lionel Yeo, Dean & CEO of the Civil Service College and Deputy Secretary of the Public Service Division and Professor David Chan, Director of BSI and Deputy Provost of SMU at the signing ceremomy on 11 May 2010.

                                        SMU Challenge 2010 flagging off from LKCSB building
                                        SMU Challenge was a charity walkathon held on 10 October 2010 to raise funds. Organized by SMU's Special Interest and Community Service Sodality organized the SMU Challenge 2010 which rallied the SMU community – from senior management, staff faculty to students and alumni to raise funds for daily necessities and cash for needy elderly staying in one-room HDB flats.
