The shorter arm of the T-Junction featured an Asia Pavilion spotlighting partner universities from China, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Thailand. This curated cluster, which attracted large numbers of students, underscored the growing interest in regional opportunities and reflected SMU’s commitment to deepening engagement within Asia.

AIP+ students and industry leaders connected at Industry Engagement Session in August 2025
- Students participating in the AIP+ programme had the opportunity to engage with industry leaders during the Industry Engagement Session in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The session included a keynote address and a panel discussion focused on talent development and future-ready skills. Representatives from leading companies such as Shopee Vietnam, WHT Trade & Investment Consulting, and SMARTR.CO shared their insights during a panel session. Drawing from their rich experiences across e-commerce, consulting and tech entrepreneurship, the panel explored the region's evolving skills landscape. Students gained valuable insights into industry expectations, the impact of AI and automation and the importance of adaptability and cultural intelligence. Held twice a year, the SMU Postgraduate Career & Networking Fair is curated for postgraduate students and recent graduates with more than two years of work experience. The event brings together experienced talent and industry employers across sectors such as finance, consulting, tech, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and media, offering opportunities to explore well-matched roles, ask meaningful questions, and connect directly with industry professionals. The Feb 2026 edition brought together close to 200 experienced students and 36 leading employers across these sectors.

- First held in September 2023 at T-Junction, SMU Careers Day is a student-focused event designed to support their internship and job search journey, with no employers present. The 2025 edition attracted over 500 students, who had the opportunity to learn more about the career development support offered by the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC), consult career coaches for personalised advice, and engage in interactive booth activities and refreshments. Open to students at any stage of their career journey, the event provides a supportive space for them to gain clarity, build confidence, and take their next step forward.
Inaugural run of ASEAN Internship Programme Plus in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
- Students participating in the inaugural ASEAN Internship Programme Plus (AIP+) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, had the opportunity to visit a local business and gain firsthand insights into how agriculture contributes to economic growth and supports rural livelihoods. They also studied at Vietnam National University to gain insights into Vietnam’s politics, economy, and society. Launched in May 2025, the AIP+ programme is jointly managed by the Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO) and the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC). It aims to enhance students' employability and global readiness through internships at ASEAN companies. Students are introduced to ASEAN cities with high business potential, providing them with an understanding of the companies, challenges, opportunities, and the business culture and landscape. They are also given opportunities to acclimatize to the city and country, and to build contacts in their assigned location.

- During the 2019 showcase of students' final presentations for the SMU-X course Managing Diversity in Asia, Assistant Professors Aidan Wong (left) and Charlotte Setijadi (second from left) from the School of Social Sciences reviewed the work of a group of students. The students worked with Nestle Singapore and recommends various solutions in enhancing gender diversity and inclusion in its workplace. The course, in collaboration with the School of Social Sciences, aims to equip students with the necessary skills to become effective and empathetic managers of people in dynamic multicultural environments. In the course, students will learn analytical frameworks that will enable them to gain deeper understanding of existing problems to do with inequality and diversity in contemporary Asian societies.
Connecting Talents : building networks for experienced postgraduates Jun 2026

Participants exchanged real-world career advice, explored diverse career pathways, and gained industry insights while expanding their professional networks. The event underscored the value of alumni engagement, peer learning, and meaningful professional connections in supporting lifelong career growth and development.

- Held on 28 January 2026 at the University’s basement concourse, SMU’s annual Study Abroad Fair was rebranded as the Global Education Fair (GE Fair). Among the Fair’s most anticipated highlights was the University’s International Student Exchange Programme (ISEP). Managed by the Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO), ISEP partners with over 230 universities across 46 countries, offering students the opportunity to study at leading institutions worldwide while immersing themselves in diverse cultural and academic environments. With representatives from more than 30 partner universities in attendance, the Fair drew strong participation from across the SMU community. The T-Junction was abuzz with activity as students engaged in lively conversations with university representatives, collected information materials, and explored pathways for their global journeys.
Industry partner offering grooming tips and product samples to students at the 2025 Careers Day
- Engaging students beyond the classroom, SMU Careers Day brought employability to life through hands-on experiences and industry partnerships. Organised annually by the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC) , the event showcases the Centre’s commitment to career coaching, employability training and job opportunities support. At the September 2025 Careers Day, event partner Metro Group complemented the learning experience by offering complimentary personal grooming tips and product samples, highlighting the importance of professional presence and self-confidence in the workplace. The interactive session as shown in the photo drew strong student participation, reinforcing the Career Centre’s mission to equip students with practical skills for career readiness.
IdeaX : A toolkit develop for innovation and problem solving since 2021
- The IdeaX Toolkit was developed by the SMU-X team in response to recurring challenges observed across multiple SMU-X classes and project presentations. Drawing from firsthand insights and classroom experience, the toolkit was designed to better support students throughout their project journey – from ideation to execution – by addressing common pain points and guiding them towards more effective and impactful outcomes. The toolkit comes in a deck of five coloured coded cards, addressing the concept of Themes, Disciplinary Knowledge, Analysis & Solution Frameworks, Problem-solving Road Map and Desired Learning Outcomes.

VinaCapital, one of Vietnam’s leading investment management companies, sponsored the SMU-X Overseas (SMU-XO) project of ECON248 Overseas Project Experience (Macroeconomics in Asia). Through projects, students gained first-hand experience in the fast-paced buy-side analyst role, identifying high-alpha projects to benefit various VinaCapital funds. They also deepened their knowledge of modern and sophisticated financial products such as SPACs and digital assets, understanding how these products have different characteristics under various macroeconomic and financial market conditions, especially in developing countries. As final deliverables to VinaCapital, students evaluated investment projects from different stakeholders’ perspectives and provided recommendations. They gained insights into the investment process and learned how to leverage market fluctuations to identify asset classes that could deliver positive investment returns. They also had the opportunity to interact with faculty and students at the Vietnam National University, network with aspiring start-up founders and SMU alumni based in Ho Chi Minh City. They also managed to squeeze in some time to soak in the sights and sounds of the city, and visit cultural sites like the Cu Chi Tunnel and Mekong River.

- SMU Careers Day is a student-centric initiative designed to support undergraduates in their internship and job search journey. The 2025 event is held at the T-junction. With no employers present, the event adopts a exploratory format focused on skills-building and self-review. The photo featured a booth manned by by SMU Career Champions, inviting students to identify five common mistakes in a sample résumé and propose improvements—an interactive exercise that encourages critical reflection on employability skills, with a small gift offered as a token of participation. This activity forms part of a wider series of interactive Careers Day booths, alongside Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions with career coaches, information on overseas internship opportunities, CliftonStrengths Top 5 profiling, and Brands Bingo.
