    Inaugural Matriculation
    Singapore Management University’s first students attend matriculation activities to complete their admission into the university. The inaugural matriculation day was held at the Evans Road building on 24 July 2000.

            SMU wins prestigious THE Awards Asia 2025 – Teaching & Learning Strategy of the Year
            SMU's Vice President (Partnerships & Engagement) Prof Lim Sun Sun receiving the prestigious award on behalf of the University. Singapore Management University (SMU) is proud to announce that it has been named Winner in the ‘Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year’ category at the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2025. The accolade was awarded in recognition of SMU-X, the University’s flagship industry project-based experiential learning framework that integrates academic knowledge with real-world industry projects. It marks a significant milestone for SMU-X, pioneered 10 years ago as a differentiating pedagogy, underscoring the University’s longstanding commitment to redefining learning through interdisciplinary, collaborative, and experiential approaches.


              SMU undergraduates build sustainability competencies through urban farming in sustainability law elective course

The course was co-convened by Yong Pung How School of Law’s Associate Professors Michelle Lim and Liu Nengye, and taught in partnership with SMU’s Office of Campus Infrastructure and Services (OCIS). The aim was to build students’ nature connectedness and sustainability competencies.

                  The Singapore Management University (SMU) announced on 29 March 2011, the naming of its auditorium as the Mochtar Riady Auditorium and the establishment of the new Mochtar Riady Scholarships.                     TCS-SMU iCIty-Lab inauguration on 5 August 2011
                    Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services, business solutions and consulting firm, and the Singapore Management University (SMU) announced on 5 August 2011 the establishment of the TCS-SMU iCity Lab to be located at SMU. The collaboration agreement signed today states the two organizations are partnering to create a new research facility to develop industry standards and IT frameworks for the emerging intelligent city (“iCity”) model of urban development.                         Commemorating 20 Years: WKWC Launches Wee Kim Wee Room and Heritage Fund
                        Commemorating its 20th anniversary, the Wee Kim Wee Centre (WKWC) is unveiling the new Wee Kim Wee Room at Singapore Management University (SMU), which houses some of the original belongings of former President Wee Kim Wee and Mrs Wee, and formally launching the Wee Kim Wee Heritage Fund.

                                  Chua Ek Kay Exhibition: A long way from home 2018 in the School of Social Sciences
                                  Associate Professor of Arts and Culture Management (Practice) Kwok Kian Chow and curator Wang Zineng at the Chua Ek Kay Exhibition: A long way from home on 19 Oct 2018. ‘A Long Way from Home’, featuring works from Singapore artist Chua Ek Kay (1947-2008) opened at the De Suantio Gallery, School of Social Sciences at SMU. It is curated by Wang Zineng together with the students in the SMU-X Arts and Culture Management course on Exhibition and Curating, led by Associate Professor Kwok Kian Chow.

                                    SMU President Professor Lily Kong second annual State of the University Address held on 3 September, she reviewed what has been an eventful year and revealed SMU’s priorities for the next five years in order to realise Vision 2025.


                                      Taichung Education Fair

Helming the new Centre as its Director is Professor of Law Liu Kung-Chung; the Centre’s Deputy Director is Professor of Law Irene Calboli


                                                  SMU establishes new scholarship with S$3 million gift from Mrs Margaret Chan-Lien
                                                  SMU President, Professor Lily Kong (Right), presented a bouquet of flowers to Mrs Margaret Chan-Lien (Left), expressing her deep gratitude to the generous S$3 million endowed gift for the Margaret Chan-Lien International Exchange Scholarship programme, which will make available 20 new scholarships for students with financial challenges to pursue international student exchange programme. This landmark contribution reinforces the University’s commitment to enabling students with financial needs to broaden their worldview and deepen their global perspectives, and equipping them to thrive in an interconnected world. The opportunity will also expand their network and may open doors to new possibilities that will uplift their aspirations, future careers and families.
