- During a breakout session hosted by the SMU School of Social Sciences at the 2026 Early Admissions Discovery Day, Professor Steven Burik introduced prospective students to the diverse programmes, interdisciplinary learning opportunities, and distinctive educational experience offered by the school. Held in a seminar room at the Yong Pung How School of Law, the session provided students with a first-hand glimpse into SMU’s hallmark seminar-style pedagogy. The intimate classroom setting reflected the University’s emphasis on active participation, close faculty-student interaction, and discussion-based learning, allowing attendees to experience the engaging and personalized learning environment that characterises an SMU education.
A coffee table book celebrating Dr Yong Pung How’s enduring legacy
- A specially produced coffee table book titled A Life in Pictures – Chief Justice Yong Pung How, presented to Dr Yong Pung How’s family by SMU President Professor Lily Kong at the law school renaming ceremony on 8 April 2021. Published by Singapore Management University, the pictorial volume chronicles the life and achievements of Dr Yong through a curated collection of photographs sourced from the National Archives of Singapore, records from the Supreme Court, the Singapore Academy of Law and SMU, as well as the Yong family’s private collection. The book highlights key milestones in the distinguished career and enduring legacy of Singapore’s former Chief Justice.
SMU officially renames its law school Yong Pung How School of Law in 2021

The event marked the renaming of Singapore Management University’s School of Law in honour of Singapore’s former Chief Justice, Dr Yong Pung How, with the new name taking effect on 11 April 2021, the date of what would have been his 95th birthday. - SMU 2025 Jessup moot team with the judges after winning the championship trophy since Singapore’s last victory in 2001. The team comprised Lovein Sui (LLB, final year); Elizabeth Ho (LLB, final year); Genieve Wu (LLB, final year); Raelee Toh (LLB, final year); and Erica Wee (LLB, final year). A key factor driving the moot success at SMU YPHSL is the Ian R Taylor International Moots Programme, which has firmly established the law school on the global stage. This programme has nurtured generations of mooters who have earned numerous world-class accolades, enabling it to consistently excel at the most prestigious international moots.

SMU launches Longevity Societies and Economies Institute to advance knowledge and innovation for Singapore’s longevity transition
- In April 2026, Singapore Management University (SMU) launched the Longevity Societies and Economies Institute (LSEI), a new institute dedicated to advancing research on the economic and societal transitions needed for economies and societies to continue thriving despite an ageing population. LSEI brings together SMU’s ageing-related research and drive an interdisciplinary agenda to build resilient and opportunity-rich longevity societies and economies. The Institute was launched by Ms Indranee Rajah, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Finance and Second Minister for National Development, at the World Ageing Festival 2026. The event was held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre and organised by Ageing Asia with SMU as the co-host and academic pillar partner. Singapore is already a super-aged society today. By 2030, one in four Singapore citizens will be aged 65 and above. Across Asia, rising life expectancy and smaller birth cohorts are reshaping labour supply, healthcare demand, retirement adequacy and community support systems. LSEI has been established to examine these shifts systematically and generate evidence to support economically sustainable and socially inclusive responses as part of an integrated systems redesign. SMU booth at the 17th World Ageing Festival held in Marina Bay Sands Expo & Convention Centre

The 17th World Ageing Festival was organised by Ageing Asia in partnership with Singapore Management University as co‑host and academic pillar partner. Recognised as Asia’s most influential ageing industry event, the Festival convenes stakeholders from policy, industry, investment, academia, and care sectors to advance dialogue, collaboration, and innovation across the ageing and silver economy landscape. The Festival comprises the 17th Ageing Asia Innovation Forum (AAIF), the 14th Asia Pacific Eldercare Innovation Awards, and the Ageing Asia Innovation Exhibition. The exhibition showcased more than 200 global brands and solutions supporting successful ageing across areas such as assistive living, home and community care, healthcare, active ageing, technology, wellbeing, rehabilitation, and wellness tourism. Building on its strong track record, the World Ageing Festival has attracted over 8,300 participants, 200 exhibits, and more than 130 speakers from over 40 countries, highlighting Asia Pacific’s US$4.56 trillion silver economy and innovations shaping the future of ageing.
Young scholars from the 2026 Dato' Kho Hui Meng Young Scholars Programme explore Singapore cultural landscapes beyond the classroom
- The photo featured participants in the second cohort of the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Young Scholars Programme at the Cloud Forest of Gardens by the Bay over one weekend. It provides the opportunity for the students to immerse themselves in Singapore’s rich multicultural heritage through visits to key cultural and historical landmarks. These experiences provided participants with firsthand insights into the diverse communities, traditions, and histories that have shaped Singapore’s unique identity, fostering a deeper appreciation of the nation’s cultural landscape and social fabric.

- More than forty participants comprising entrepreneurs, members of the business community, educators and SMU alumni gathered in the second instalment of the International Speaker Series Dialogue hosted by SMU on 28 February 2018 in Delhi, India, The topic of “The Purposeful Entrepreneur” was tackled where participants listened to entrepreneur Mr Alan Rosling; Mr Sunil Puri, Asia-Pacific Director – Research, innovation & Product Development at Centre for Creative Leadership; Dr. Ritesh Malik, CEO of Innov8.Work; and Dr Flocy Joseph. The dialogue series was launched by the postgraduate career services team of the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC). It aims to provide a platform for greater business-academic interactions and experience-sharing across geographies.
First run of Career Cafe in 2024
- The Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC) ran its first Career Cafe in the basement Concourse in September 2024. This event offered students a casual setting to engage with industry experts, career coaches, and fellow students over a drink. - In February 2018, the inaugural International Speaker Series Dialogue took place in Mumbai, India, drawing over fifty participants, including entrepreneurs, business community members, government officials, and SMU alumni. Hosted by the postgraduate career services team of the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC), the session was themed "Winning the War for Talent." It focused on how corporations and start-ups can attract the right talent to achieve their business goals and enhance their appeal to high-potential individuals.

- As part of the Asia Pacific Business course within the Global Summer Programme (GSP), students visited the Old Town White Coffee Coastal Playgrove at East Coast Park. The programme features onsite visits to various local companies, allowing participants to enhance their socioeconomic and cultural understanding of Singapore and Asia. Students learned about the importance of leveraging technology for business success and appreciating cultural diversity. The visit to Old Town White Coffee offered real-world exposure to the local food industry.

SMU-X presented its pedagogy in APAIE 2026
- At the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education Conference and Exhibition 2026 (APAIE), held at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Mr Derek Chiang (left) and Mr Kevin Koh, Head of SMU-X, shared insights on how intentional curriculum design—through approaches such as mentorship, structured reflection, and iterative project development—can strengthen intercultural competence, foster student agency, and develop graduates’ professional capability in global contexts. Held under the theme “Asia-Pacific Partnerships for the Global Good,” the conference highlighted the role of higher education institutions in forging partnerships that contribute to collective well-being. It also provided a platform for SMU to deepen collaboration in industry-linked, project-based experiential learning, advance cross-border initiatives, and cultivate new connections for future collaboration.
