Inter-Faculty Games Tug-of-War final draws strong community support at SMU Patron's Day 2026
- As part of SMU Patron’s Day 2026 on 30 January 2026, the SMU Sports Union Inter-Faculty Games brought together students from all seven SMU schools to compete for the coveted SMOO Trophy and attractive prizes. One of the highlights of the competition was the Tug-of-War final, where teams from the School of Economics and the School of Computing and Information Systems battled for the championship honours in a spirited display of strength, teamwork, and determination. This photograph captures the intensity of the final match as competitors strained for victory before an enthusiastic crowd of supporters. Among the spectators cheering on the finalists were Professor Alan Chan, Provost of SMU ; Professor Lily Kong, President of SMU ; Mr Piyush Gupta, Chairman of SMU ; and Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam. Lee Kong Chian School of Business engages prospective students at SMU Open House 2026

Leadership presence highlights community spirit at SMU Open House 2026
- At the 2026 Open House, members of SMU’s senior leadership team toured various event activities and engaged with staff and students who played key roles in organizing and supporting the university-wide event. Their presence on the ground reflected the university’s appreciation for the collective efforts that contributed to the success of the Open House. Also making appearances throughout the campus was SMOO, SMU’s mascot, who delighted visitors through photo opportunities, interactions with attendees, and the distribution of commemorative SMOO pins, adding to the festive and welcoming atmosphere. SMU Samba Masala lights up the stage on the night of Patron’s Day 2026
- SMU Samba Masala energised the crowd with a vibrant performance during the evening celebrations of Patron’s Day 2026, bringing music and excitement to Campus Green. The entertainment programme also featured performances by fellow student groups SMU SoundFoundry and SMU Funk Movement. The evening culminated with a headline performance by homegrown singer-songwriter shazza, followed by a closing DJ set by SMU Stereometa, transforming Campus Green into a lively social gathering space for the SMU community.

- On 18th November 2025, the Singapore Open Legal Informatics Database (SOLID) was officially launched at Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Yong Pung How School of Law (YPHSL). Supported by the Ministry of Law (MinLaw) and housed within SMU’s Centre for Digital Law (CDL), the three-year initiative aims to develop Singapore’s first open empirical legal database. The project will compile and release machine-readable datasets containing key statistical information on Singapore court decisions, statutes, legal scholarship, and court structures, providing structured and research-ready data to support empirical legal research and technological innovation. The launch event featured roundtable discussions involving local stakeholders and international experts on the priorities and future applications of legal data. The SOLID database will be made freely accessible through a public website and Application Programming Interface (API), contributing to the development of Singapore’s legal data infrastructure and supporting research and innovation within the legal sector.
Chief Justice Menon giving a speech at the renaming ceremony of SMU’s Law School
- This photograph captures Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon delivering his address as Guest-of-Honour at the ceremony to rename SMU’s School of Law as the Yong Pung How School of Law on 8 April 2021. In his speech, Chief Justice Menon paid tribute to the late Chief Justice Yong Pung How, describing his impact on Singapore’s legal profession and judiciary as “profound and immense.” He reflected on Dr Yong’s transformative leadership in modernising the administration of justice, noting that his reforms laid the foundation for Singapore’s world-class judicial system and continue to be recognised internationally today. Chief Justice Menon also highlighted the significance of naming the law school after Dr Yong, observing that such honours are bestowed only in exceptional circumstances. He expressed confidence that the School would uphold the values, vision, and pursuit of excellence exemplified by Dr Yong, and encouraged its leaders and students to build upon his legacy in shaping a law school of the highest quality for future generations.

Wharton-SMU Research Centre Agreement

Agreement with SCCI
- A group of Singapore Management University undergraduates organise SMU’s first student-run service project, Project Primate. As part of the community service module in their leadership and team building course, they adopted a baby Sumatran orang utan from the Singapore Zoological Gardens and raised funds for wildlife conservation. BSI received grant from Civil Service College on 11 May 2010
- The newly-established Behavioural Sciences Institute (BSI) at SMU received a S$4.5 million grant from the Civil Service College. The funds, to be disbursed to the BSI through the Civil Service College over a three-year period, will be used to build Singapore's capabilities in behavioural sciences by supporting the Institute's activities in research, training and education, as well as industry outreach and application. SMU Challenge 2010 flagging off from LKCSB building
- SMU Challenge was a charity walkathon held on 10 October 2010 to raise funds. Organized by SMU's Special Interest and Community Service Sodality organized the SMU Challenge 2010 which rallied the SMU community – from senior management, staff faculty to students and alumni to raise funds for daily necessities and cash for needy elderly staying in one-room HDB flats. SMU Global Summer Programme 2024 introduces a new Digital Intelligence Track
- Singapore Management University (SMU) launched the 9th edition of its annual Global Summer Programme (GSP) with the introduction of a Digital Intelligence track. The new track empowers students to confidently harness technology for success in an AI-driven world. Held at the Mochtar Riady Auditorium on campus, the launch event was attended by more than 250 programme participants from 35 nationalities around the world. Gracing the event was Guest of Honour Ms. Feon Ang, Managing Director, Asia Pacific, LinkedIn (4th from right). Joining her (on her right) was Aidan Wong, Asst Prof, Urban Studies (Education), College of Integrative Studies, who moderated at the launch and (from her left) Yuanto Kusnadi, Assoc Prof of Accounting (Education) and Academic Director (SMU-X), as well as Mr. Rick Tay, Head, and Ms. Bay Hwee Eng, Asst Director, from the Centre for Global Education and Opportunities (GEO). SMU students with the representatives from Sabanci University from Turkey at the 2024 Study Abroad Fair
- The 2024 Study Abroad Fair (SAF) saw a record-breaking 1,512 registered participants, the highest since its inception. Students are offered a wide range of Global Exposure (GE) programmes at SMU to enrich their learning. These include overseas community service projects by the Centre for Social Responsibility, overseas internships by the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre, study abroad and immersion programmes by GEO, overseas study missions offered by Schools and overseas project experiences by SMU-X, among others. The Fair served as a comprehensive platform for students to learn about the various programmes available, engage directly with representatives from SMU’s partner universities, and gain insights into overseas exposure opportunities.
