SMU officially renames its law school Yong Pung How School of Law in 2021
This photograph captures the official unveiling of the Yong Pung How School of Law name during a renaming ceremony held at SMU Hall, located in the basement of the law school building, on 8 April 2021. The event marked the renaming of Singapore Management University’s School of Law in honour of Singapore’s former Chief Justice, Dr Yong Pung How, with the new name taking effect on 11 April 2021, the date of what would have been his 95th birthday. Pictured on stage from left to right are Professor Goh Yihan, SC, Dean of the School of Law; Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law; Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for Education; The Honourable Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, Distinguished guest Mrs Yong Wei Woo, wife of the late Dr Yong Pung How; Ms Yong Ying-I, daughter of the late Dr Yong; and Professor Lily Kong, President of SMU. Attended by members of the judiciary, government leaders, SMU leadership, faculty, students, alumni, and Dr Yong’s family, the ceremony commemorated Dr Yong’s lasting contributions to Singapore’s legal system and his pivotal role in advancing legal education at SMU.
