    Launch of LARC with CMU
    Singapore Management University (SMU) and Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) have teamed up to establish the Living Analytics Research Centre (LARC). The Centre will develop new techniques to acquire data on consumer and social behavior and pioneer new approaches to analyse such data to develop applications and methods that will benefit consumers, businesses and society. The collaboration has received a S$26 million grant over five years from the National Research Foundation in Singapore. This fund is managed through the multi-agency Interactive Digital Media Programme Office (IDMPO) hosted by Media Development Authority of Singapore. With SMU and CMU committed to cash and in-kind contributions, and third party funding, the S$60 million centre will establish Singapore as one of the world's pre-eminent centres of excellence in computational social science. The Living Analytics research programme is distinctive in that it combines the key technologies of Big Data (large scale data mining, statistical machine learning, and computational tools for the analysis of dynamic social networks) with analytics focused on consumer behavior and social media.       Singapore Management University (SMU) welcomes its 12th batch of freshmen at its Convocation Ceremony today. The 1,770 students will pursue existing undergraduate degree programmes in business management, accountancy, economics, social sciences, information systems management and law. SMU's holistic admissions criteria ensures an annual intake of freshmen who display not only academic excellence but are also multi-talented with a wide range of skills, aptitude and leadership qualities. Many amongst the present intake are national sportsmen, accomplished artists, young entrepreneurs and passionate community service volunteers.

              The Singapore Management University (SMU) announced on 29 March 2011, the naming of its auditorium as the Mochtar Riady Auditorium and the establishment of the new Mochtar Riady Scholarships.                 Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading IT services, business solutions and consulting firm, and the Singapore Management University (SMU) announced on 5 August 2011 the establishment of the TCS-SMU iCity Lab to be located at SMU. The collaboration agreement signed today states the two organizations are partnering to create a new research facility to develop industry standards and IT frameworks for the emerging intelligent city (“iCity”) model of urban development.
