SMU Challenge is the university's annual community outreach event that provides students with opportunities to interact with beneficiaries on a personal level, understand underlying societal issues and needs, and gain deeper insights to support these beneficiaries throught their community service projects. The first SMU Challenge in 2008, organized by SMU Students' Association, is a cyclethon held in the Atrium of Plaza Singapura. Its goal was to pedal 50,000km collectively in 30 hours on 120 stationery bikes to raise funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Singapore.
