A feast of local flavours and fellowship at SMU National Day Observance Ceremony 2023

A lively queue formed at the buffet during SMU’s National Day Observance Ceremony on 8 Aug 2023, enjoying a beloved annual tradition that combines festive dining with opportunities for colleagues to connect and celebrate Singapore’s National Day together. The buffet spread featured an assortment of local savoury favourites, including samosas and carrot cake, alongside an enticing selection of traditional nyonya kueh. Among the highlights were Ang Ku Kueh, a glutinous rice flour pastry filled with sweet mashed mung bean paste and shaped using a distinctive tortoise-shell mould; Kueh Lapis, a colourful layered delicacy made from glutinous rice flour, sago flour, and sugar; and Kueh Salat, a popular two-layer cake comprising a base of glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk topped with a fragrant pandan and coconut custard layer.
