Chief Justice Menon giving a speech at the renaming ceremony of SMU’s Law School

In his speech, Chief Justice Menon paid tribute to the late Chief Justice Yong Pung How, describing his impact on Singapore’s legal profession and judiciary as “profound and immense.” He reflected on Dr Yong’s transformative leadership in modernising the administration of justice, noting that his reforms laid the foundation for Singapore’s world-class judicial system and continue to be recognised internationally today.

Chief Justice Menon also highlighted the significance of naming the law school after Dr Yong, observing that such honours are bestowed only in exceptional circumstances. He expressed confidence that the School would uphold the values, vision, and pursuit of excellence exemplified by Dr Yong, and encouraged its leaders and students to build upon his legacy in shaping a law school of the highest quality for future generations.
