Professor Lily Kong, the newly appointed Provost, joins SMU from 1 September 2015
- The Singapore Management University (SMU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Lily Kong (江莉莉教授) as the University’s new Provost (教务长兼常务副校长). Professor Kong, who is currently Vice Provost (Academic Personnel) at the National University of Singapore (NUS) where she also holds the Provost’s Chair Professorship, will join SMU from 1 September 2015. At SMU, Professor Kong will hold the Lee Kong Chian Chair Professorship of Social Sciences (李光前社会科学讲座教授).

Student band performers at the 2023 National Day Observance Ceremony
- The photograph features members of The Cauliflowers, a band from SMU SoundFoundry, who performed at the 2023 National Day Observance Ceremony. As Singapore Management University’s premier live music student club and co-curricular activity (CCA), SoundFoundry provides opportunities for passionate student vocalists, instrumentalists, and producers to collaborate through jam sessions, live performances, recording projects, and major campus showcases. During the ceremony, the student musicians played a key role in leading the SMU community of staff and faculty in the singing of beloved National Day songs, helping to create a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere. Their performance inspired a strong sense of unity, pride, and camaraderie, bringing the community together in celebration of Singapore’s nationhood. A cherished presence at the annual event, SoundFoundry has long contributed its musical talent and youthful energy, making it an integral part of SMU’s National Day traditions and celebrations.
Celebrating National Day in 2016 with a burst of streamers

- The 2022 National Day Observance Ceremony marked one of SMU’s first large-scale community celebrations following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions. Staff with face masks gathered at campus green and enjoyed the opportunity to interact with Professor Lily Kong, SMU President, reflecting a renewed sense of connection, resilience, and togetherness within the university community.
Career Champions of 2024
- Corinne Ong, Director, Career and Employability Services (front, 3rd from left) from the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC) with the Career Champions of 2024. The Career Champions Programme was initiated in January 2013, comprising student leaders trained by staff of DKHMCC to provide basic career coaching such as resume reviews, mock interviews, internship advice, to undergraduate students. Following its success, the programme was extended to Alumni in 2017.
Career centre establishes overseas engagement team in 2016

- Associate Professor Gary Pan from the School of Accountancy (Right) received the inaugural SMU-X Excellent Teacher Award from SMU Provost Professor Lily Kong (Left) at the 2018 State of University Address. The award recognizes faculty who are dedicated to teaching SMU-X courses and collaborating with partners from the private, public, or social sectors to integrate experiential activities where students address real-world issues impacting communities and organizations. Prof Pan, along with Prof Venky Shankararaman from the School of Information Systems, bridges accounting and information Systems in the SMU-X Accounting Analytics Capstone, preparing students for future changes in the work landscape. Prof Pan was also acknowledged for being nurturing and supportive in guiding students through their learning progress.
