A feast of local flavours and fellowship at SMU National Day Observance Ceremony 2023
- A lively queue formed at the buffet during SMU’s National Day Observance Ceremony on 8 Aug 2023, enjoying a beloved annual tradition that combines festive dining with opportunities for colleagues to connect and celebrate Singapore’s National Day together. The buffet spread featured an assortment of local savoury favourites, including samosas and carrot cake, alongside an enticing selection of traditional nyonya kueh. Among the highlights were Ang Ku Kueh, a glutinous rice flour pastry filled with sweet mashed mung bean paste and shaped using a distinctive tortoise-shell mould; Kueh Lapis, a colourful layered delicacy made from glutinous rice flour, sago flour, and sugar; and Kueh Salat, a popular two-layer cake comprising a base of glutinous rice cooked in coconut milk topped with a fragrant pandan and coconut custard layer.

Wearing matching T-shirts and holding miniature Singapore flags, the community stood together for the flag-raising ceremony and the singing of the national anthem, commemorating Singapore’s National Day in a display of unity, pride, and belonging.

- Students learning business concepts via a game "Co-Founders of the North" in a lecture. Gamification padagogy was adopted as early as 2015. Co-Founders of the North is a multi-player strategy game developed for various business courses to teach concepts such as strategic decision making, long-term investment planning and risk management.

Established in July 2025, the Office of Impact leads SMU's efforts to advance, track, and communicate its contributions to society. - A professor conducting a lecture. Instead of big lecture theatres, students in SMU are taught in seminar rooms in classes of not more than 45. Students are encouraged and guided to speak up and present their opinions and arguments cogently, enabling them to learn from both the professors and peers.

SMU leadership unite the community in a stirring rendition of Home at the 2025 National Day Observance Ceremony
- During Singapore Management University’s (SMU) National Day Observance Ceremony in 2025, members of the university’s senior management joined beloved mascot SMOO on stage to lead the SMU community in a spirited sing-along of the National Day classic Home. Accompanied by live performances from student musicians of The Undercurrents, SMU SoundFoundry, and with Singapore flags waving throughout the crowd, the moment captured the collective joy, unity, and national pride that marked Singapore’s SG60 commemorations. Set against a festive backdrop of red-and-white decorations, the performance brought together staff and university leaders in a nostalgic sing-along, highlighting the enduring message of Home and its themes of belonging, unity, and gratitude for Singapore.
