Groundbreaking for the Evans Road Building
- Singapore Management University Chairman Ho Kwon Ping and President Janice Bellace don yellow boots and hard hats for the first foundation pile for the Evans Road building on 12 January 2000. Located adjacent to the Bukit Timah campus, SMU operated out of the Evans Road building for the first academic year. This date also marks the incorporation of SMU and it is celebrated each year as Patron’s Day.

National Day Observance Ceremony in 2019 brings staff together over local food fare and community spirit
- Staff members gathered at Campus Green during Singapore Management University’s National Day Observance Ceremony on 8 August 2019, forming a vibrant sea of red in matching T-shirts. Captured here is one of the event’s cherished traditions, the breakfast buffet, where colleagues queued to enjoy a variety of local favourites, including roti prata with chicken curry, soon kueh, yam cake, and bee hoon. The occasion provided an opportunity for the SMU community to come together in celebration of Singapore’s National Day, fostering camaraderie, community spirit, and a shared sense of national pride.
Nurturing talent beyond the classroom with showcase at the National Day Observance Ceremony 2026
- Professor Lily Kong, President of SMU, together with SMOO, the university mascot, is pictured with student performers from Undercurrents, a band under SoundFoundry, and emcees from Singapore Management University Broadcast & Entertainment (SMUBE) at the National Day Observance Ceremony held on 6 August 2026. The event highlights SMU’s commitment to providing students with opportunities to pursue their interests, showcase their talents, and develop holistically through participation in campus events and co-curricular activities. SoundFoundry provides a platform for students to pursue and develop their passion for music, offering opportunities to explore instrumental performance, recording, music production, and band dynamics. Established in 2004, Singapore Management University Broadcast & Entertainment (SMUBE) supports university events and student engagement through its four specialised wings: Campus Emcee Collective, Campus Podcast, Campus Video Production, and Campus Events & Backstage. Together, these student groups contribute to the vibrancy of campus life while nurturing creativity, leadership, and professional skills beyond the classroom.
