Career Champions of 2024
Corinne Ong, Director, Career and Employability Services (front, 3rd from left) from the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC) with the Career Champions of 2024. The Career Champions Programme was initiated in January 2013, comprising student leaders trained by staff of DKHMCC to provide basic career coaching such as resume reviews, mock interviews, internship advice, to undergraduate students. Following its success, the programme was extended to Alumni in 2017.

    Career centre establishes overseas engagement team in 2016

      Associate Professor Gary Pan from the School of Accountancy (Right) received the inaugural SMU-X Excellent Teacher Award from SMU Provost Professor Lily Kong (Left) at the 2018 State of University Address. The award recognizes faculty who are dedicated to teaching SMU-X courses and collaborating with partners from the private, public, or social sectors to integrate experiential activities where students address real-world issues impacting communities and organizations. Prof Pan, along with Prof Venky Shankararaman from the School of Information Systems, bridges accounting and information Systems in the SMU-X Accounting Analytics Capstone, preparing students for future changes in the work landscape. Prof Pan was also acknowledged for being nurturing and supportive in guiding students through their learning progress.

        Project Primate
        President Janice Bellace (with flowers), students and faculty at Zouk Club on 13 June 2001. A group of Singapore Management University undergraduates organised SMU’s first student-run service project, Project Primate. As part of the community service module in their leadership and team building course, they adopted a baby Sumatran Orangutan and raised funds for wildlife conservation. The fund-raising efforts culminated in a bash at Zouk.

                    Wharton-SMU Research Centre Agreement
                    Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan speaking at the signing ceremony to establish the Wharton-Singapore Management University Research Centre. This joint research centre will focus on international business issues relevant to Singapore and Asia, and help establish a research culture at SMU. The deputy dean of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Janice Bellace, is named as the centre director and SMU president-designate. DPM Tony Tan also announced that SMU will award its own degrees beginning with its first graduates. The signing ceremony was held on 10 June 1999 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.

This occasion marked the beginning of the university’s student activities.                                         SMU's Offices at Goldbell Towers
                                        SMU President Janice Bellace and Chairman Ho Kwon Ping at the ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of Singapore Management University's new offices at Goldbell Towers on Scotts Road. Mr Ho Kwon Ping also announced the seventeen winning ideas from the city campus ideas competition.
