Inaugural Matriculation
- Singapore Management University’s first students attend matriculation activities to complete their admission into the university. The inaugural matriculation day was held at the Evans Road building on 24 July 2000.

Financial Education Programme

Conference with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania
- Singapore Management University Provost Tan Chin Tiong speaking to the audience at the conference on “Managing Change in the New Millennium”. This conference was held jointly with the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania on 28 July 2000.

Agreement with Ritsumeikan University
- On the first day of classes, Singapore Management University launched its international exchange programme for students by signing a memorandum of understanding with Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University from Oita Prefecture, Japan. This is the first of many agreements with overseas institutions to increase the global perspective and cultural experiences of SMU undergraduates. Photo taken on 1 August 2000.

- Singapore Management University Chairman Ho Kwon Ping and President Janice Bellace don yellow boots and hard hats for the first foundation pile for the Evans Road building on 12 January 2000. Located adjacent to the Bukit Timah campus, SMU operated out of the Evans Road building for the first academic year. This date also marks the incorporation of SMU and it is celebrated each year as Patron’s Day.
