Associate Professor Gary Pan, recipient of the inaugural SMU-X Excellent Teacher Award in 2018
- Associate Professor Gary Pan from the School of Accountancy (Right) received the inaugural SMU-X Excellent Teacher Award from SMU Provost Professor Lily Kong (Left) at the 2018 State of University Address. The award recognizes faculty who are dedicated to teaching SMU-X courses and collaborating with partners from the private, public, or social sectors to integrate experiential activities where students address real-world issues impacting communities and organizations. Prof Pan, along with Prof Venky Shankararaman from the School of Information Systems, bridges accounting and information Systems in the SMU-X Accounting Analytics Capstone, preparing students for future changes in the work landscape. Prof Pan was also acknowledged for being nurturing and supportive in guiding students through their learning progress.
Outstanding Intern of the Year award recipients of 2017

Established in 2013, the award is funded by an endowed contribution from Ms. Ruth Chiang, the pioneer director of the Office of Career Services at SMU. Managed by the Dato' Kho Hui Meng Career Centre (DKHMCC), the award scheme aims to encourage excellence in internship performance, uphold good and ethical values and practices in the workplace, and recognize students' achievements in their internships.

Prof Shankararaman, along with Prof Gary Pan from the School of Accountancy, bridges accounting and information systems in the SMU-X Accounting Analytics Capstone, preparing students for future changes in the work landscape. Prof Shankararaman was also acknowledged for assuming the roles of facilitator, negotiator to bolster students' confidence and support their learning in interacting with the real-world.

SMU wins prestigious THE Awards Asia 2025 – Teaching & Learning Strategy of the Year
- SMU's Vice President (Partnerships & Engagement) Prof Lim Sun Sun receiving the prestigious award on behalf of the University. Singapore Management University (SMU) is proud to announce that it has been named Winner in the ‘Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year’ category at the prestigious Times Higher Education (THE) Awards Asia 2025. The accolade was awarded in recognition of SMU-X, the University’s flagship industry project-based experiential learning framework that integrates academic knowledge with real-world industry projects. It marks a significant milestone for SMU-X, pioneered 10 years ago as a differentiating pedagogy, underscoring the University’s longstanding commitment to redefining learning through interdisciplinary, collaborative, and experiential approaches.
SMU’s Co-Curricular Transcript wins Gold at QS Reimagine Education Awards 2025
- Singapore Management University (SMU) has been awarded the Gold Award in the Nurturing Employability category at the QS Reimagine Education Awards 2025, in recognition of its groundbreaking Co-Curricular Transcript (CCT), a pioneering University-wide initiative that makes visible the skills and competencies students develop through experiential, out-of-classroom learning. The win underscores the CCT’s innovation, real-world impact, and scalability. Developed by the Office of the Dean of Students (ODOS), the Co-Curricular Transcript is a first-of-its-kind initiative in Singapore that complements the academic transcript by formally documenting students’ engagement in co-curricular activities and the skills developed through these experiences. At the heart of the initiative is the Integrated Co-Curricular Management System (ICMS), a digital platform that supports participation tracking, guided reflection and mentor feedback. Through this system, students are guided to make intentional co-curricular choices, reflect meaningfully on their experiences, and translate learning into demonstrable competencies.
