Wharton-SMU Research Centre Agreement
- Signing ceremony held on 10 June 1999 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel to establish the Wharton-Singapore Management University Research Centre. Left to right: SMU Chairman Ho Kwon Ping, Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan, Minister for Education Teo Chee Hean and SMU President-Designate Janice Bellace. The joint research centre will focus on international business issues relevant to Singapore and Asia, and help establish a research culture at SMU. - Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan speaking at the signing ceremony to establish the Wharton-Singapore Management University Research Centre. This joint research centre will focus on international business issues relevant to Singapore and Asia, and help establish a research culture at SMU. The deputy dean of the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, Janice Bellace, is named as the centre director and SMU president-designate. DPM Tony Tan also announced that SMU will award its own degrees beginning with its first graduates. The signing ceremony was held on 10 June 1999 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
SMU's Offices at Goldbell Towers

Mr Ho Kwon Ping also announced the seventeen winning ideas from the city campus ideas competition. - The National Library Board and Singapore Management University sign a memorandum of understanding on 3 September 1999. Under the terms of the agreement, NLB will plan and manage library and information services for the university. SMU and Wharton Sign Five-Year Agreement
- Professor Tan Teck Meng, SMU Deputy President and Provost, and Professor Janice Bellace, Deputy Dean, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, sign a five-year collaboration agreement in the areas of curriculum and course design, faculty development, and student exchange. This agreement follows an earlier memorandum of understanding signed in January 1998. Ho Kwon Ping, Chairman SMU Executive Committee, is looking on. Agreement was signed on 2 February 1999 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel.
