Inaugural Convocation
- Some of the 306 incoming bachelor of business management students at Singapore Management University's inaugural convocation ceremony on 29 July 2000. This convocation marks the opening of the university, the beginning of the academic year and the start of the business school. Ceremonies were held at Bras Basah Park, the site of the Singapore Management University’s future city campus. Male undergraduates wore SMU ties and the female undergraduates wore SMU scarves.
Preparing for Inaugural Convocation
- A large air-conditioned tent is set up at Bras Basah Park, the site of Singapore Management University’s future city campus. SMU’s inaugural convocation is held here on 29 July 2000.
DPM Tony Tan Visits SMU
- The university flag is presented to Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan by Singapore Management University’s Class of 2000. This occasion marked the beginning of the university’s student activities. SMU President Janice Bellace and DPM Tony Tan can be seen in the centre of the photo taken in front of the Evans Road building on 8 September 2000.
Student Guitar Ensemble
- Guitarissimo, Singapore Management University's student guitar ensemble, was established at the start of the university in August 2000. The photo shows their “jüs müsiq” concert, circa December 2000.
Groundbreaking for the Evans Road Building

- Student cheerleaders welcoming Deputy Prime Minister Tony Tan to Singapore Management University on 8 September 2000. DPM Tony Tan held a press conference and spoke with senior administrators and trustees about SMU’s long-term plans. He also toured the Evans Road building.
Reflections Talent Show

The choir is made up of students from the pioneer class and staff and faculty, including HR Director Amy Tan, Director of Career Services Ruth Chiang, Administrative Executive Lim Lih Yeng, Lecturer of Finance Tan Eng Joo, Assistant Professor of Law Lee Pey Woan, Jason Chiam Chiah Sern, and Deputy Dean of Business Low Kee Yang.

First Day of Classes
